It has been a long 11 months since KVHS hosted a varsity boys basketball game but the wait is over, as they take their 2021-2022 home opener 93-46 over the visiting St. Malachy Saints.
The visitors were the more disciplined group to start the game jumping out to a quick 10-4 advantage. Following a quick timeout from the home team, KVHS finished the 1st quarter on a 20-2 run for a 24-12 lead. The Crusaders followed up that strong performance, winning 2nd quarter 22-6 to head into half time with a 46-18 advantage.
KVHS kept kept up the defensive pressure in the second half winning the 3rd quarter 31-12 and the 4th 16-14.
As was the case in the first three games of the pre-season, KVHS had a well balanced offensive attack with all 12 players hitting the scoreboard.
The leading scorers for KVHS were:
- Cole DeFazio with 18 points
- Liam McKee with 17 points
- Adam Butler with 10 points
Leading the way offensively for St. Malachy were:
- Eli Roderick with 17 points
- Marcus Raiche with 12 points
KVHS improves to 2-2 on the season and are currently at 1-0 in southern conference play.
What’s Next
The Crusaders head to Fredericton on Friday to take on the Woodstock Thunder as they participate in the annual Lion’s Den Tournament. KVHS returns to league play on Wednesday December 1st when they host long time rival Saint John High who recently won the Simonds Tournament.
